Printed boxes

With the increase in the number of shipping packages, the printed box is more popular than ever. After all, they want to distinguish themselves from the competition with a beautiful and recognizable packaging. We humans are naturally visually oriented. During transport your boxes are easily recognizable and offer extra attention value on arrival at the end customer. Beautiful prints give confidence to the consumer and are therefore an added value for your company.

Techniques:
The used printing method for boxes depends on the thickness, edition and size of the box. Almost all printing techniques can be applied. Below you will find the most common methods:

Flexo:
The most common for dozens printing is the "Flexo printing method", also known as "high-pressure printing". The ink is applied directly to the material with the aid of a plastic cliché (printing form). Flexo printing is an ideal printing process for difficult surfaces (carrier bags, napkins, food packaging material, forms and even newspapers). Attractive to the flexo is the use of water inks. Flexo printing can be recognized by the typical glossy color of the ink, which is particularly visible with obliquely visible light. Drukmoet does not occur, but letters and lines do show clear beaded edges.

You can print in both PMS colors and Full color (CMYK). However, black and / or PMS in 1 or 2 colors is most common for boxes and cardboard packaging.

You must submit an EPS or Illustrator file (vector file) with us. It must be made up of PMS colors. Ask your corporate identity designer or your printer for such a file. If you can only deliver a JPG file, additional costs will be charged.

For full color printing (pixel file), you should preferably have a resolution of 300DPI. This is usually a file of 1Mb or more. If your file has a large size of, for example, 234Kb, the quality for printing is probably too low and only suitable for screen display on eg websites.

You can see the size of your image in "properties", if you click on the image with your right mouse button

Offset:
Up to approx. 400 grs can be printed directly on white cardboard in offset. Corrugated cardboard boxes and the like will, however, be covered with an offset printed sticker material which is subsequently applied to the corrugated board.

The printing form generally consists of a thin aluminum plate on which an image has been applied via photographic or laser means. To get a print from this offset plate, it must first be dampened. All non-image parts take this moisture. Then the greasy ink is applied. Since the wet non-image parts repel the ink, it is assumed only on the image portions. The ink is now printed on a rubber blanket and then this rubber blanket presses the image onto the paper. Usually sheets are printed one by one, but rotary printing, from the roll, is also possible, depending on the type of printing press.

The advantage of offset is that it can be printed with a very fine grid fineness. Qualitatively it is the best printing method. You can print in both PMS colors and Full color (CMYK). Full color is the most common nowadays. At FC, a color is built up from larger or smaller grid dots. For example, green will consist of yellow and cyan. In this way a color photo is also built up. If a PMS color is mimicked in FC, it may deviate a little from the real PMS-color.

Digital printing technology:

Digital inkjet machines have been in use for several years now, which can provide wave boxes on a flatbed printer with an image. This is an emerging market. The advantage is that no printing form is required and therefore no cliché costs are involved. This makes it interesting for small print runs and personalized printing. In the case of direct printing on the box material, the paper quality of the box determines the quality of the image. The printing principle is broadly similar to your printer at home.

Submit files:

1 to 3 colors PMS:

You must submit an EPS or Illustrator file to us. It must be made up of PMS colors. PMS stands for Pantone Matching System (a color fan) and is comparable to RAL, but then for the printing industry. Ask your corporate graphic designer or your printer for such an EPS file. It is only possible to make an EPS file yourself with the correct graphic software and knowledge. If you can only deliver a JPG file, additional costs may be charged.

Full color (CMYK) = 4 colors:

For full color printing, you should preferably have a resolution of 300DPI on the final format. JPG, PSD, PDF, EPS, AI, CDR files are usefull.
